Foster Family

“My parents owned a meat cutting business and I worked there while growing up. I got married just as I was finishing college and we moved away for a few years. We moved back home to be close to family.

We have 6 kids, three I gave birth to and the other three we adopted. The kids’ names all start with the letter A, three girls, and three boys. So I can just shout out “A” and they all come.

It was a big change to double our family. We had two kids when we started fostering kids and went to 5 kids overnight. We had to take two cars when we went somewhere until we got a bigger one.

Two brothers were our first placement, they left for a little while, but we got them back. We added a foster daughter and then I had an ‘oops baby’. We went from two kids to 6 kids in just a short while.

We home school all the kids and have them in 4-H with animals. I always tell people, we raise kids and animals. If I had it to do over again, I would do the same. Be patient with yourself, give yourself praise. Do the best you can to have a happy family.”
